District makes decision on Snow Make-up Days

Due to the days missed because of the recent inclement weather, Iredell-Statesville Schools has announced two of the three scheduled days will be used to make up the missed time.  The Board of Education voted on Monday, January 9th to remove Monday, January 23rd as a snow make-up day.  January 23rd will remain a regular teacher workday.  This change was done to support our high schools that will be converting from the fall semester to the spring semester.  The snow make-up days for Monday, January 9th and Tuesday, January 10th will be February 27th and March 31st as outlined on the 2016-2017 District Calendar.
In an email sent out by Superintendent Brady Johnson, he explained the reasoning behind this decision.
"By using the two snow make-up days in our calendar, we are hopeful that any additional days that we may miss, will be covered with our time we have banked this year by extending the school day 10 minutes," Johnson explained.  "I hope that I am wrong, but I bet before the winter is over, we will be thankful that we have banked time to protect spring break and avoid Saturday schools."
This is the earliest that Iredell-Statesville Schools has had to close school due to inclement weather in over six years.  The district hopes that by using the upcoming days, they will have more flexibility to tackle additional weather conditions as they arise.
