I.B. Middle Schools Ranked Tops by Independent Website
Independent school search and comparison site SchoolDigger.com recently released its list of top middle schools in North Carolina. Making the grade were both Mt. Mourne and Northview, I.B.O. World Schools offering rigorous curriculum for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
The website lists Mt. Mourne and Northview as being tied for first place with four other schools in North Carolina. Mt. Mourne Principal Dr. Boen Nutting attributes the school's success to its staff.
"Our steller academic performance at Mt. Mourne is a testament to good teaching. The quality of a school is predicated on the quality of the teacher in each and every classroom," said Nutting. "Our teachers are professionals who ignite a passion for learning in our students day after day. Along with rock-solid support from parents, we are able to work as a team to create the best possible environment for learning."
The I.B. middle years programs debuted in Iredell-Statesville Schools only three years ago. Northview Principal Tim Ivey is impressed with the schools' progress since that time.
"We're extremely proud of our students' academic performance, as well as all that our parents, teachers, and stakeholders have done to help us accomplish this amazing honor in just three, short years," said Ivey. "Thank you to all those who believed in this program, and for helping us continue to work toward our vision of uniting with our community in empowering students to be the innovative, global thinkers of the 21st century."
SchoolDigger.com based their rankings on schools' combined EOG scores. Both Mt. Mourne and Northview had EOG averages above 95% proficient. Despite these results, Nutting believes test scores are a small part of measuring a child's education.
"We realize the importance of academic success, and are proud of the effort and initiative of our students," explained Nutting. "However, we realize that test scores do not define a child, and we are most proud of the fact that we work everyday to cultivate productive, positive citizens through inquiry-based learning, global mindedness, and community and service."
