Welcome to English as a Second Language (ESL) Class
ESL Program: Our ESL program is a coursework designed to help speakers of other languages learn English as their second language. Students will show proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking during our coursework. We will work in accordance with the WIDA standards and use ACCESS testing as our primary assessment tool.
About me: My name is Vivian Simmons. I am from Cali, Colombia, but I moved to the United States in 2013 to work as a DI teacher at East Elementary. I hold a BA in Modern Languages and a master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I worked as a homeroom teacher for 13 years and this year I transitioned to the ESL department. I am excited to serve K-5 students in Iredell County.
Legacy Statement: Learning a second language is not an easy task. It requires dedication and persistence. Therefore, my mission as an ESL teacher is to make the learning experience fun for my students so they become passionate lifelong learners who would look forward to each class and feel the desire to learn more.
