• The Iredell-Statesville Public School System (I-SS) provides special education and related services according to the federal mandates of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act and the regulations of the North Carolina Public School Law, Article 9.
    The I-SS Exceptional Children Department serves over 2,100 students with special needs, ages 3- 21. The school system provides a continuum of service to meet individual student needs. Whenever possible, students are served in schools in their base attendance area or in schools of choice with support for special education and related services and/or building modifications. For students who require a separate setting or more intensive services in order to benefit from their special education, programs are clustered geographically but continue to be based on school campuses that house age appropriate peers.
    The I-SS Exceptional Children Department has a five-year strategic plan. The following are the goals of the plan:
    •  Improve EC student achievement growth by at least 2% each year.
    • Improve EC student outcomes through use of appropriate and meaningful data to drive instructional and behavioral decisions.
    • Improve EC student social skills and behavior through intentional evidence-based strategies and practices.
    • Improve EC student outcomes by providing continuum of services in the Least Restrictive Environment.
