• Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers

    Description: The Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) program responds to current concerns and projections about the growing demand for professionals and information technology workers in the U.S. and seeks solutions to help ensure the breadth and depth of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce. ITEST supports research studies to address questions about how to find solutions. It also supports the development, implementation, testing, and scale-up of implementation models. A large variety of possible approaches to improving the STEM workforce and building students’ capacity to participate in it may be implemented and studied. ITEST projects may include students or teachers, kindergarten through high school age, and any area of the STEM workforce. Projects that explore cyberlearning, specifically learning with cyberinfrastructure tools such as networked computing and communications technologies in K-12 settings, are of special interest.

    Grant Competition for the Cooperative Civic Education and
    Economic Education Exchange Program (Federal Register: January 20, 2010 [CFDA# 84.304A])
    Purpose of Program: The Cooperative Civic Education and Economic Education Exchange Program provides grants to improve the quality of civic education and economic education through cooperative civic and economic education exchange programs with emerging democracies.

    Deadline for Transmittal of Applications: March 8, 2010.

    Eligible Applicants: Organizations in the United States experienced in the development of curricula and programs in civics and government education, or economic education for students in elementary schools and secondary schools in countries other than the United States.
    Eligible Country: For the purpose of this grant competition, the term eligible country means a Central European country, an Eastern European country, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the independent states of the former Soviet Union as defined in section 3 of the FREEDOM Support Act (22 U.S.C. 5801), the Republic of Ireland, the province of Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom, and any developing country (as such term is defined in section 209(d) of the Education for the Deaf Act (20 U.S.C. 4359a(d)) if the Secretary, with the concurrence of the Secretary of State, determines that such developing country has a democratic form of government. (See 20 U.S.C. 6715(g)).

    Teaching American History Grant Program (Federal Register:  January 21, 2010 [CFDA# 84.215X])
    Purpose of Program: The Teaching American History Grant (TAH) Program supports projects that aim to raise student achievement by improving teachers' knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of traditional American history. Grant awards assist local educational agencies (LEAs), in partnership with entities that have extensive content expertise, in developing, implementing, documenting, evaluating, and disseminating innovative, cohesive models of professional development. By helping teachers to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of traditional American history as a separate subject within the core curriculum, these programs are intended to improve instruction and raise student achievement.

    Deadline for Transmittal of Applications: March 22, 2010.

    Eligible Applicants: LEAs, including charter schools that are considered LEAs under State law and regulations, which must work in partnership with one or more of the following entities: An institution of higher education; a non-profit history or humanities organization; a library or museum. An LEA may form a consortium with one or more other LEAs and submit a joint application for funds. The consortium must follow the procedures for joint applications described in 34 CFR 75.127 through 75.129 of EDGAR.
