    Theatre I:  Beginning 

     

    Course Objectives

    •        To follow the North Carolina Essential Standards for Beginning Theatre.

    •        To educate students on all aspects of Theatre Production

    •        To develop a basic understanding of the integrated academic elements throughout Theatre Arts.

    The course is the foundation of theatre arts education. Students will learn the fundamentals of theatre as it pertains to the North Carolina Essential Standards for beginning theatre.  Students will develop an understanding of theatre through reading plays throughout different eras of Western Theatre.  Students will develop a basic foundation of Theatre History, Set Design, Stage Makeup, Costume, Design.  Students will also gain a basic knowledge of the Theatre Continuum.  Students will be assessed with teacher generated assessments and formative state assessments throughout the course. This class is a prerequisite for any students interested in auditioning for The Academy/Advanced Theatre

     

    Theatre II/III: Intermediate/Proficient

     

    Course Objectives

    •        To follow the North Carolina Essential Standards for Intermediate Theatre.

    •        To prepare students for the upcoming performance component of the Graduation Project.

    •        To develop an appreciation and further knowledge of the elements of the professional theatre field.

    The course will further develop the knowledge about the professional theatre field.  Students will learn the the basic fundamentals of directing and have an opportunity to direct their peers in a play. They will work independently on projects that involve the integrated aspects of theatre.  The class will develop a more advanced understanding of the elements of design and technical theatre.  Students will complete a major project where they are the owners and operators of a small theatre compay; they will need to create a well thoughtout budget for their theatre.

     

    Advanced Theatre/ The Academy

     

    Course Objectives

    •        To follow the North Carolina Essential Standards for Honors Advanced Theatre I-II Grades 9-12.

    •        To prepare students for the upcoming performance component of the Graduation Project.

    •        To participate in the North Carolina Theatre Conference Play Festival if selected

    •        To develop improvisational skills for long form and short form improvisation evenings

    •        To write, direct and perform self-written works

    •        To develop an appreciation and further knowledge of the elements of the professional theatre field.

    The is a performanced based course. Students will learn variouse advanced acting methods such as the Stanislavsky Method of Acting whcih is an intense character development process that strives to make the performance real.  Students in this course will learn how to quickly bring a play from the script to the stage in preperation for public performances. They will learn the requirements for higher education in theatre and a professional career in theatre

    Lakeetha Blakeney is a native of Concord North Carolina, she received her BA in Theater and African American Studies from UNC Greensboro and her MA in English and Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University. Before returning to her home town Lakeetha worked with various theater companies such as The Black Rep and the Rep STL in St Louis MO. Since moving home, she has worked with Matthews Playhouse and the Children’s Theater of Charlotte.  She has also started her own theater company Redeeming History Theatricals where she writes and performs historically based plays.  She is so excited to join the Lake Norman High family.
