The mission of my art class is to teach students to create in a wide variety of media, as well as learn some of the rich history of art through time. Through this process it is my goal to help students learn to love to learn through creating, so that they have a lifelong connection to art.
My educational background begins with a Radio, Television, and Motion Picture Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1989. After a brief on-air radio career, I returned to school for a degree in studio art from UNC-Charlotte with teacher certification. Graduating in 1995, I began my career with year-round schools in Iredell Statesville Schools. After 8 years of doing part-time youth ministry, I did take 3 years to work in the Methodist Church in Greensboro with youth full-time. During this time I was able to travel internationally with students, continue with short-term mission work on the east coast, and sell over $100,000 worth of pumpkins in fundraising. When my family returned to the Mooresville area, I returned to teaching in the Newton-Conover City Schools system. This meant driving an hour to and from work each day. Thankfully the position opened at LNES, and I am back in the ISS system at this wonderful school. I look forward to teaching the kids in this community. I love teaching art and leading kids to a love of creating.
I am married to Carol, who is a nursing home administrator. She has a passion for caring for the elderly, and helping families deal with the complexities of life in its later stages. I also have a son, who is an Eagle Scout, studying Finance at Appalachian State. My second son plans to have his eagle rank later this year. He also enjoys singing and the theater.
