My name is Rachel Hamrick and I am the school counselor for 9th-12th grade students at SIHS whose last names begin with letters F-L. I enjoy working with high school students to address their social/emotional needs, academic growth and development, and career/college readiness. I attended Appalachian State University for my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for my Master's degree in School Counseling. I began my career as a school counselor at SIHS in 2010 and took a 5 year leave to stay home with my firstborn daughter from 2012-2017. I am glad to be back at SIHS and to again be able to support students in the high school setting with preparedness for post-secondary goals, as well as their current academic progress through these highly important years.
Regarding my personal life, I am married and have two young daughters who fill my home and life with lots of laughter and love. I enjoy hiking, singing, and spending time with my family. My husband and I sing together regularly both in churches and community settings. One of my favorite quotes is from Mother Teresa who said, "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier." My goal is to encourage and uplift others with my speech, demeanor, and attitude, as well as to make others feel significant and valued. This is true both in my personal and professional life. Please know that I am here to serve the SIHS community, including students, parents, and staff.
