My goal is to create a student-centered classroom where everyone has the opportunity to ask questions, learn and shine. I love showing students that reading can be fun and to help them develop the skills they need to be successful both in and out of school. I believe that if you can make the content relatable to them in their middle school worlds, they will be engaged and will retain what they learn. I work hard to make our learning activities interactive and fun and that they address all types of learning styles. It is my wish to take the fear out of understanding literature and poetry and to teach them that there is not always one right answer to a problem, like in life, there can be many different solutions to problems. We also spend half our time learning how to read and understand informational texts, with these I spend time building their background knowledge of what the current topic is, whether that is exotic animals, historical events or conservation methods. This helps them to understand what they are reading and make it fun to read.
My classroom motto: I don’t understand, YET. Ask questions! We will continue to go over anything that the students do not understand until I find a strategy that makes sense to them. It is important to ask as many questions as they need in order to understand a concept.
I am looking forward to the 2018-2019 school year! It’s going to be awesome!About Me
