I am very excited to begin my fourth year at Lake Norman High School and my 24th year as a public school teacher in North Carolina. My desire to work in a high performing school with strong community expectations led me to Lake Norman High and I've very much enjoyed my time here. I love teaching and I love literature so I'm blessed to come to school each day!
My hobbies include running, hiking, and biking at Lake Norman State Park, attending college football and basketball games (I am a huge Tennessee Vols fan), home improvement projects, and of course reading (a few favorite authors are Andy Andrews, John Grisham, Timothy Keller, and Stephen Ambrose). I attend First Baptist Church of Mooresville and originally grew up in the far western mountains of North Carolina. I graduated from Western Carolina University with BSEd and MSA degrees as well as endorsements in economics, literature, and gifted education.
During the 2018-2019 school year I will be teaching three classes in English II (World Literature) and three classes in English III (American Literature). In both courses we will read a variety of short stories and poems as well as 2-3 novels. I do not assign homework as I want to know that the work being turned in to me is original to my students. Because I don't assign homework, our time in class each day is very important; I expect students to be focused on our activities, not on their cell phones or other technological devices.
Students, both past and present, are always welcome to stop by my room before school (7:15 or later), during SmartLunch, or after school (before 4:00). Both students and parents are welcome to contact me at any time for further information or with questions.
