Degrees and Certifications:
Master's of Education, Dowling College Bachelor's of Sociology and History, SUNY Albany
Welcome to eighth grade Individuals and Societies! This is my sixth year teaching Individuals and Societies at Mount Mourne. Before becoming a member of the Mount Mourne community I lived in New York and was a substitute teacher. I grew up on Long Island and went to SUNY Albany to earn my Bachelor's in Sociology and History. After graduating SUNY Albany, I earned my Master's in Adolescence Education from Dowling College in Oakdale, New York.
I moved to Mooresville after I was offered the position at Mount Mourne and live with my wife Erin and our two dogs Milo and Tucker. I also referee soccer and always run in to past, future and current students at Mazeppa Park after school and during the weekends. I enjoy soccer, football and spending time on the lake and with my wife son Jackson.
This year we will cover United States and North Carolina history from Exploration until Modern America and my favorite topics are the American Revolution, Civil War and the Progressive Era. I expect all of my students to come to class prepared and willing to learn. My goal is to prepare all of my students to read and think critically, communicate well through writing and presentations and develop the skills to be successful high school students. I look forward to a great year!
All classroom assignments and homework can be found on my Canvas website. If you are not currently an observer of your student or need help gaining access please email my wife Erin Hieb at firstname.lastname@example.org.
