Since her arrival at EES, the school has expanded from 570 students to over 900 students, with a waiting list to attend the Dual Immersion Magnet Program. The school received the honor of being named a Covey Lighthouse School in March, 2017. East Elementary has visitors and guests attending tours from across the nation to learn about the best practices that have led to the school’s success. Prior to her years at EES, Mrs. Rhyne served as an administrator at Third Creek Elementary for seven years and taught at various Title I Schools across the district totaling over twenty years in education. She served as 2016-17 Iredell-Statesville Schools Principal of the Year, as well as 2017-18 NC Southwest Regional Principal of the Year. She received her BA in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University, Masters in School Administration from Garner-Webb University, and Educational Administration (EdS.) degree from Appalachian State University.
On a personal note, Mrs. Rhyne was a student of Iredell-Statesville Schools, graduating in 1990 alongside her future husband, John (married in '94). They have three teenage children: Marley (junior at LRU), Jordan (freshman at MCC) and Nicole (junior at WIHS).
She is a reflective, passionate educator who focuses on best practices and strategies to support and change the future possiblities for all children. Every decision made with her teachers requires answering the question: How is that best for children?
