My Classroom Mission
It is my goal to create a classroom environment where my students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and learning from them, and pushing themselves daily. I also want them to know that I have their best interests in mind, that I will show them respect, and that they can trust me to help them whenever needed.
I believe that all students can learn if they are willing to put in the required work, and that together we can make this one of their best years yet.
My class motto is: Don't tell me you can't, but that you'll try.
I grew up in Statesville and went on to receive a degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. After working for the Employment Security Commission for eight years, I chose to become a Teacher Assistant. It was during that time at Cool Spring Elementary that I decided I wanted to teach and attended Lenoir-Rhyne University to earn my teacher's license. I am now in my twelvth year of teaching at East. My husband Chris and I have been married for 26 years and have two children: Elizabeth, who recently got married, and Thomas, who is in his senior year at UNC. We also have a 10-year-old rescue dog named Bella. In my free time- if there is such a thing- I enjoy reading, working out with my husband, yoga, and following UNC athletics.
