My mission is to create a classroom environment that fosters the growth of student understanding of culture, language, rhetoric and how the art of language affects our lives. I want students to become effective communicators who know how to read skillfully and write effectively in multiple rhetorical modes.
I have been teaching English/Language Arts for 17 years. The first six years were spent in Daytona Beach, FL teaching ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade. Troutman Middle School become my home in 2007 where I taught 8th-grade Inclusion, General Education, and Advanced Language Arts classes for two years. I then joined the Viking Staff at South Iredell High School and currently teach English III Honors, English III, Journalism I & II/Yearbook. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in English/Language Arts 5-12 from Concord University in Athens, WV, and then earned a Master's Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in the BrainSMART program focused on new brain-based teaching methodology.
