My Classroom Mission: Students in my classes will learn about literature and how it applies to their own lives. I will challenge my students to become better readers and more proficient writers in order to prepare them for college and the workforce.
I am in my twenty-fifth year in English education at North Iredell High School; and while at North, I have taught all levels of English. For the Fall 2016 semester, my schedule includes English IV Honors, English IV Academic, and the fall component to AP Literature and Composition entitled Advanced Senior English. In the spring, in will be teaching AP Literature and Composition, and English IV Honors. While I wish my Holocaust Literature elective would have made for this year, I have high hopes to teach it again during the 2017-18 school year, as I am proud to be a Museum Teacher Fellow for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington, DC. In addition, I am a former NIHS, ISS, and NC Northwest Region Teacher of the Year. I am committed to Holocaust education across the state of North Carolina, and I am also the Success Academy coordinator at NIHS.
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is my alma mater where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in English in 1992, as well as my Master's Degree in Secondary Education in 1998. I also received my initial National Board Certification in 2002 and received my renewal in November 2011. North Iredell High is truly my second home, and I am "PROUD TO BE A RAIDER!"
