Welcome to the exciting world of 7th grade Social Studies!

    My Mission Statement

The purpose of 7th grade social studies is to help young people develop civic effectiveness. Civic effectiveness is the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.  My goal is to develop civic effectiveness through a year long study of Global History begining with the year 1450. Put in more simple terms: I want my social studies students to better understand & appreciate the world around them.

    About Me

This is my fourteenth year of teaching and my ninth year at Brawley.  During the 2016-2017 school year I served as Brawley's Teacher of the Year.

    I have the following degrees:

    ·         MA-Middle Grades Education from ASU (2010)

    ·         BA-Middle Grades Education from Lenoir Rhyne (2006)

    ·         BA-History from Lenoir Rhyne (1996)

    ·         BSN from UNC-Charlotte (1993)

I have been married for 25 years to Tamara, and we have two children: Amanda who is a Senior at UNC Charlotte and Nathan who is a Sophmore at East Carolina. I turn 49 in February.

We live in Statesville with our Labradoodle Zoe and and our cat Kenzie.  In my spare time I enjoy movies, reading, coffee, Doctor Who and supporting  the Carolina Panthers and Duke Blue Devils.

I have a profound passion for education and sharing the joys of history.  While dispersing stories about our past I have an additional goal of helping young adolescents through the difficult years of middle school.
The supreme purpose of history is a better world.
