Welcome to Ms. Layne's First Grade Classroom!
We will have a big year ahead of us as we follow the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS), and integrate the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).  So, get ready for an exciting year of learning as we head off to the wonderful world of math, reading, writing, and Letterland (phonics)!  We are bound to be great inquiring minds!
    Our Classroom Essential Agreement
We will ALL do our BEST and we know its ok to make mistakes.  We will care for one another as we learn each day.  We will use our good manners amd get prepared for 2nd grade.
    The CCE Honor Pledge
We promise to always do our best in everything we do.  We will exhibit academic honesty and demonstrate the IB learner profile and attitude everyday.
    About the Teacher
I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education and a minor in English and communications.  I went on to earn my Master of Arts degree in school administration from Gardner-Webb University while teaching at Mt. Mourne Elementary School where I taught first grade for 5 years (2001-2005).  I took time off from teaching to stay at home with my daughter, Ansleigh, and during that time, I taught preschool at Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church Preschool (2007-2010).  I returned to teaching in 2010 and have taught 3rd and 1st grades here at Coddle Creek Elementary School.  It is such a wonderful place to be!  This will be my 14th year teaching!
My daughter, Ansleigh, is an 8th grader at Mt. Mourne IB.  She loves the IB program and participating in her school volleyball and softball teams.  She also plays travel volleyball, which keeps us on-the-go in the winter months.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and our Maltipoo named Maddie Grace (aka "Gracie").  I also enjoy cooking, shopping, watching movies, reading, watching youth sports (volleyball and softball) and participating in activities at my church.  I also love catering events!
I look forward to working with each and every one of you this year!  Together, we can do anything!  So, let's get started on this great adventure!
