Welcome to Student Services!  My name is Paula Huffman and I am one of three counselors in the WIHS Guidance Department. My specialty is working with seniors as they prepare for graduation, college and the world beyond; however, I will be happy to assist you with any questions or concerns you might have, regardless of grade level.
    Student Services' Mission

To assist all students in reaching their academic and personal potential through school, career, college and personal counseling and through related support services.
    About Me

A Statesville native, I graduated from Statesville Senior High School in 1979. I recieved my undergraduate degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1983 and my M.Ed in Counseling from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro in 1987.
My professional experience includes over ten years as a college counselor at Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton, NC,  where I served as an admissions counselor and as a career counselor. I also coordinated the college's placement testing program and its student activities/student government program.
In addition, I have experience in residence life at the college and university level. Prior to earning my master's degree, I worked as a news reporter and as an account executive in a public relations firm. I joined the staff of West Iredell High School in July of 1996.
One of my personal interests is writing fiction for young adults, and I am fortunate to serve as the advisor for the WIHS Creative Club. The club is open to all students interested in writing, illustrating and the creative process, and we welcome anyone who would like to attend.
In addition to writing, I enjoy snow skiing and snowboarding, running and trying to ride my son's skateboards. One of my biggest accomplishments for the summer of 2008 was learning to surf at Ocean Isle Beach!
I am married to Ed Huffman who is a science teacher at North Iredell Middle School and we have one son, Will, a student at NIMS.
