    My Classroom Mission

My mission is to bring math to life for my students by incorporating an inquiry based mathematics curriculum with an awareness of the international community.  I will do this by using creative real world applications and technology in an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
"Knowing mathematics is doing mathematics.  A person gathers, discovers, or creates knowledge in the course of some activity having a purpose." (NCTM)

I am looking forward to a new year teaching Level 2 Math at Northview IB World School.  I am National Board Certified in Early Adolescent Math and received my Master's in Middle School Mathematics from Western Carolina University.

I love to travel, recently visiting Russia and several Scandinavian countries in the Baltic Sea.  I also enjoy sailing, the beach, swimming, and spending time with my two grandsons.  I am married, have two grown children, 3 grandsons and 1 grandaughter.  My daughter graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and from the University of Richmond School of Law; she now practices Intellectual Properties Law in Charlotte, NC.  My son graduated from the USNA in Annapolis MD, and the US Naval Test Pilot School in Pax River MD.  He earned his Masters in Systems Engineering from the US Naval Postgraduate School in Montery CA and is currently a Lieutenant Commander for the U.S. Navy, stationed in Williamsburg VA.
