Imaginative Narrative Story Prompts

You fall asleep in the library while you are reading a scary book.  You wake up when it is dark.  The library is closed for the night, and you are locked in. Then you hear a sound.  Something scary happens.  Write a story about what happens.

You are captain of a spaceship that has just landed on the planet Mars.  You climb down the ship's ladder and your foot steps onto something slippery.  It says "Ouch!"  Something weird happens.  Write a story about what happens.

You are on a small boat in a tropical ocean.  A storm blows your boat onto the shore of an island.  You walk up the beach.  Then- something unexpected happens.  Write a story about what happens.

One Saturday morning you pick up the mail and bring it inside.  You notice a package with your name on it.  You open the package and look at the contents.  They are a complete surprise to you.  Write a story about what happens.

You hear a TV news announcement that Martians have landed.  Then you see a bright light.  You look out your window, and ……  Something unusual happens.  Write a story about what happens.

You are digging in the ground as part of a school project.  Your shovel strikes something hard.  You look down at the ground and see something unusual.  Write a story about what happens.

You and your best friend are working on a homework assignment in your room.  There is a knock on the door.  Your friend gets up and opens it.  On the other side of the door is something surprising.  Write a story about what happens.

Imagine that you could be the teacher for the day.  Describe what the day would be like and write a story.

Pretend that you find a magic skateboard.  The skateboard can take you anywhere you choose to go.  Write about where you would go and what you would do.

Imagine that one day you find a magic mirror.  The mirror can allow anyone in the world to appear before you.  Tell a story about the person that you would choose and what the two of you would do, while together.
