Introduction

"A told B and B told C, 'I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree"
Can ABC's walk and talk?  Have you ever seen them run up a tree?  Have you fallen down before and gotten hurt?  What did your mom and dad do?  Read on and see what happened to all the letters at the "Boom, Boom Tree".

Learners

This lesson is a beginning introduction to letters.  Using the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom the student will begin distinguishing between letters.  This lesson will also build listening skills and following directions skills.  Because of the use of the computer it will also enhance computer skills.

Students will need a general knowledge of how to operate the computer mouse and work simple game programs. They will need to know how to use the Back command.  You will need to instruct them to "click" on the small palm trees to go to work page.

Process

This could be used early in the year as a whole group activity with the Averkey or pairs or small groups.
 

  Day 1.   Listen to the story and draw a picture related to the story and write a sentence about your picture.
 
 
 

  Day 2.  Play one or more of the alphabet games.

   Day 3. Look at pictures of a coconut tree and types of coconut trees. Use the  printouts to cut out and stamp letters of your name "running" up tree.(click on tree for printout)

  Day 3.   Paint coconut tree and try to write three letters.(click on tree for paint picture)

  Day 4.  Listen to story of the legend of the Coconut Tree.  Draw and write one sentence
               about the story.



 
  Resources Needed
You will need a copy of the book,  Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
You will need some letter stamps
There is a printable run off to make a coconut tree art project.  You may use as a run off to be colored and stamped.  We cut out green leaves and a brown trunk and white coconuts to paste on then stamp with the letters of their names.

This is a good way to spark interest in learning the alphabet names and to enjoy the use of the computer.
