Introduction
Many events in our history have
shaped our country into the place we live in today. As you may have learned
in fourth grade, North Carolina was actively involved in wars of the past.
Once such war was The Civil War. During the war, a particular battle would
remain one of the worst in our history.....Gettysburg.

The Task
You will make a product to be displayed
at our History Fair next month. All work will be placed in a folder provided
for you during class. One part of your work will be shared with your classmates
during Project Sharing Day on __________________. You may choose which
part you share.

The Process
Follow these steps to accomplish
your task:

1. Read the story of The Battle of
Gettysburg at the following site: http://www.gettysburg.com/bog/bogstory/story1.htm

Decide upon one topic that interests
you: Life
of the soldier, Military
Leaders, Gettysburg
Battle, or Gettysburg
National Park. Write a two page paper about the topic.

Draw a picture of an interesting fact
you learned.

Write a poem, story, or song lyrics
for something you read.

Place all work in the pocket folder
provided in class.

Share one part of your project with

Conclusion
At the end of this project, you
should have an idea of some of the history concerning The Battle of Gettysburg.
You will have a finished product to display for parents and community members
during our History Fair. You should also have a sense of pride in knowing
what people from the past did to make things better for you! Hopefully,
you will have pride in your country and your past.
