25 years ago, the Greyhounds played
their first Varsity Soccer match here in Greyhound Hollow.
We commemorate that auspicious
event by congratulating the members of that team.
Under the leadership of Coach Mark
Gustafson, the 1978 team had a record of 6-5. They finished fourth in the
Southwestern 4A Conference which was made up of all the Charlotte Mecklenburg
high schools, including highly ranked Myers Park and South Mecklenburg.
Ray Hunt led the team in scoring
with 12 goals. The defense was led by sweeper Mark Wardo, John Allison,
and Will Allison. Goalkeeper Larry Harrelson recorded 2 shutouts.
Captains Brian Woodward and Scott
Conger were selected to the all-conference team.
Thanks for giving soccer a great
start here at Statesville High!
