Entry Teaching Information
Thank you for
your interest in teaching the children of Iredell Statesville Schools through
the Lateral Entry Teaching Program. Due to increased interest in the Lateral
Entry Program, we ask that you review the following steps in pursuing this
career path.
1. Please visit
the Teach4NC for specific information
regarding the Lateral Entry Program and/or DPI
Lateral
Entry Criteria and Conditions.
2. To qualify
for Lateral Entry you must have the following:

A four-year degree
from a Regionally Accredited College or University (Please contact your
College or University to verify their accreditation.)

An overall GPA
of 2.5
-
Your degree must
be directly related to the area you wish to teach. Please see Sample Relevant
Degrees and Teaching Areas listed below.
3. Please
submit an application for "LICENSED"
employment. Mail a copy of your official, degree-dated transcripts along
with a note indicating the date you submitted your application to:

If your qualifications
meet our needs, you will be contacted for further information and a possible
interview.
4. If you become
employed, the District will help you apply for your NC Teaching License.

You will need to
associate with a College or University with an approved Teacher Education
Program in your area of licensure or work with the personnel office to
apply to the Regional Alternative Licensing Center.

You will be responsible
for completing a minimum of 6 semester hours of coursework each year for
a maximum of 3 years.

You will have to
take the PRAXIS II exam for your licensure area in your 2nd year of Lateral
Entry.
