SAVE

I had a chance to interview Mrs. Lindenberger about the SAVE club.  Here is what I learned about SAVE.

SAVE is an acronym. It stands for Students Against Violence Everywhere.  SAVE started in Charlotte, NC at West Charlotte High School.  It is now nation wide and in Canada.  They have two representative colors, orange and purple.  The colors came to be when Alex Orange, who went to West Charlotte High School, was shot and killed at a party.  His friends started this club because of Alex and other students who had been shot at schools.  That is where orange came from, his last name.  Purple was Alex’s favorite color.

Mrs. Lindenberger got involved with SAVE in an interesting way.  It all started when Officer counts from NIHS came to talk to her classes.  She had started the SAVE club at the high school and wanted someone to start the SAVE club here.  Mrs. Lindenberger remembers; “I went to a workshop and the next day I came back and my name was plastered on every locker saying that it you want to join the SAVE club see Mrs. Lindenberger with your $3.00.  I was surprised.”

Some achievements from last year are that they fed the homeless at Fifth Street Ministry. They also brought new toys to children in the Battered Women’s Shelter.  They plan to do several other things this year.  Examples are- free babysitting an PTO nights, crafts around the holidays with the nursing home, lunch buddies with the Sheriff’s Department, bringing DARE in for 7th graders, and visit terminally ill children at the hospital.  They also plan to do a couple of fundraisers to support call inquiries to the Crime Stoppers Phone Line.
