Newbery Award Lesson

Introduction: The Newbery Medal is awarded each year to the author of the most distinguished children's book published in America the previous year.  Winning the Newbery Medal provides recognition for writing achievement and is a high honor.

Assignment: As you complete this LearningQuest, you will discover information about the Newbery Medal.  You will learn about the history of the medal and the criteria for choosing an award-winning book.  You will use the World Wide Web to answer questions about the Newbery Medal and books which have received this award.

Internet Resources:Our Library Media Center has a collection of Newbery Medal Books.  You will select and read some of these stories.  Also, the World Wide Web has some good Web pages which feature the Newbery Medal.
