Have you ever been to Reed Gold Mine? If not you have to visit this very historic site. Reed's gold mine was discovered around the 1800's. It all started when Conrad Reed found a 17 pound gold rock in Little Meadow Creek. Conrad brought it home and showed the rock to his father. John Reed was Conrad's father. He was a Hessian soldier in the British army. He left the army and came to North Carolina to start a farm. After Conrad found the rock the family used it as a doorstop. Then a Fayetteville jewler identified it to be gold. John Reed sold it to him for $3.50, 10 percent of its real cost! But, when he out what it was worth he asked for what it was worth. In 1848 Reed's Gold Mine was eclipsed by the great California Gold Rush. Now Reed's Gold Mine is a Historical site where you can go panning and even explore the mines! Have Fun!
