Edward Teach is a famous person associated with North Carolina.  Edward Teach (also known as Blackbeard) is known for his long black beard, and for being a pirate.  He had parents but little is known about them.  Edward Teach grew up in either England or Jamaica.

     Edward Teach probably went to school. But no one knows.  He probably went to school because, he was so intelligent.

     Like I said, no one knows if he went to school or not.  Maybe he just went to being a pirate because he was a great pirate.  He used his intelligence to hide and create strategies.  Thats why I think he had to have gone to atleast some school.

     Blackbeard is famous for his long black beard,  for being a pirate, for stealing boats,  for sinking boats, and for stealing goods and selling them to other people.  He also captured three ships out of Charleston, South Carolina.  He caught a ship once called " Queen Anne's Revenge " and armed it with 40 canons.  He tricked a king called King George.  He said he would give up pirating but he then did as he pleased and continued.  Blackbeard is associated with North Carolina because, when people came from England he would hidein the sounds off the coast of North Carolina and  then when they left their ships he would steal things from their ships.  He found that North Carolinas coast line was filled with great hiding places.  He was the terror of the sea.

     I learned that Edward Teach is also called Blackbeard and that he stole goods and sold them for money.  I would not like to meet him because he might steal something from me, plus pirates creep me out.

     Blackbeard is dead now.  He died on November 21, 1718.  Captain Maynard went to battle him.  Blackbeard cut Captain Maynard's sword in two.  But a British solder had stabbed him in the neck.  So now Blackbeard is dead.  We will always think of Blackbeard when we study North Carolina.  He has been a major part of our history.  He is also kind of cool.
