"We Open Tomorrow's Eyes"

 
Mrs. Linda Dagenhart's seventh grade language arts class at Lakeshore Middle School raised $236 by collecting cans during a recent Can Drive.  After researching various charities, funds, and organizations, the students decided to donate the money to Fifth Street Ministries for their ongoing and continued support of the people in Iredell County.  Shown above receiving the check is Mrs. Patti West, Program Director of Fifth Street Ministries.  may23
Mt. Mourne held the first annual Student Art Show on April 26.  Over 400 people came to support the art program.  Special thanks to Ragin Uptown Bus Charters, Darryll Bolduc Law Firm, and Starbucks Coffee of Mt. Mourne for providing the refreshments. All proceeds from the Art Show go back to the art program for the students. may24d
Career Day was held at Mulberry School on April 26, 2007.  Special thanks go to Mitchell College, Piedmont Bank, Employment Security Commission, Kemon Hair Academy of Beauty, EMS Services, Iredell County Public Library, Iredell Home Health Dept. and Xavier Barber Shop for helping make the day a great success. Elizabeth, a fourth grade student at Monticello created a project that integrated Math and Social Studies.  After a recent trip to Old Salem, she looked for angles in the buildings that she saw there. may29d
Congratulations to West Iredell High School's German 2 and 3 students for their performance in the Lenoir-Rhyne Language Festival on April 18.  Students took third place for their skit and earned a trophy for second place with their singing of the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" (Komm gib mir deine Hand). may30d
Students in the East Middle 7th Grade Band were surprised by one of the judges at the Carowind's Music festival on Saturday, May 12th!  Robert W. Smith, composer and judge, came to the stage to congratulate the students on a job well done!  The band played his piece, Tanoan Echoes.  He was especially impressed with Aaron who played a wonderful percussion solo.  The band was given the rating of Superior at the festival. may31d

 
Kathryn Vaughn, a 4th grade teacher at Shepherd Elementary, recently received Walmart's Teacher of the year Award.  She received a gift certificate and the school received $1000 to spend on school projects. june1d
The Woodland Heights Elementary Student Council spent the month of March diligently collecting change from the school community for OurTown's Habitat for Humanity's Change for Change campaign. They presented a jar of over $1,100 in change to Shonda Miller (Davidson's Habitat Representative) in April.  june4d
Charlie Johnson from "The Charlie and Debbie Show" on WSOCFM 103.7 radio station in Charlotte recently visited Cathie Hill’s math class at Lakeshore Elementary. Her math students had tried one of the calculator math tricks that he aired on his show. They loved it so much, that she contacted him to let him know and he offered to come and visit.  Mr. Johnson shared with the class how he uses math in his job at the radio station. It was great for the students to see how math is used in everyday life!  june5d.htm

The Statesville High School tennis team won the 2007 3A Boys State Championship by a score of 6-0. This is the first boy's tennis state championship in 10 years. june20d.htm

Tracy Davis, was also named Wal-Mart's "Teacher of the Year."  Tracy is a first grade teacher at Celeste.

Miss Waller's third grade class at East Elementary learned a fun way to remember standard liquid measurements by making their own model Gallon Men.  Bright colors and personalized faces made it a fun and colorful lesson they could share with the whole school. june9d.htm
The East Iredell Middle School 8th Grade Band traveled to Williamsburg, VA the weekend of April 28th to compete at Music in the Parks.  The band came home with a First Place trophy and a Superior Rating!  WAY TO GO!! june7d.htm

On Wednesday 16th May, Miss King’s and Mrs Jones’ 5th grade classes at Lakeshore Elementary School became a wax museum of influential Americans.  The children first wrote a research essay and then dressed up as their chosen American.  Other classes in the school and parents visited the museum.june25d.htm
Jennifer, an eighth grade student at Brawley Middle School was recently awarded a certificate of achievement for literary contribution to the national publication Beta Journal.  She wrote a short story called The Revenge of the Chickens published in the bimonthly magazine that is sent to all National Beta Club members nationwide.  According to their web site, the National Beta Club recognizes academic achievement, promotes
character, develops leadership skills, encourages service involvement, and provides technological advantages to students in grades 5 - 12. june26d.htm
